Malcesine is one of the most characteristic villages of Lake Garda.

Built around its fortress overlooking the lake with its lively alleys full of history and has always welcomed visitors who love to taste the ancient Garda traditions. The economy is based on tourism and agriculture which merge here preserving the territory and the environment. The cultivation of the olive tree in particular and the famous oil that comes from it are the pride of the whole community. The history of Malcesine begins in Roman times of which traces are found to continue with Lombards and Franks. In particular, the fortress was built by the Lombards and then destroyed in 590 by the Franks. Rebuilt and remodelled several times up to the last Scaliger building, the castle represents one of the most valuable military architectures works on Lake Garda, now home to the Lake museum. Another important example of the Scaliger presence is the Palazzo dei Capitani built in the 13th century. it became a national monument in 1902 for its particular Romanesque Gothic style.
